SUMMARY:BURGUNDY: Masterpieces\, Monuments\, Pilgrimage and a Medieval Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Burgundy brings together medieval heritage and Renaissance masterpieces\, secular splendour and ecclesiastical majesty in what was once one of Europe’s most powerful and ambitious duchies. In a domain which covered the historic artistic centres of Flanders\, the rulers and their court could call on the finest sculptors\, painters and architects to create an exquisite environment which was the envy of its contemporaries. The area also boasts the majestic 11th century Benedictine Abbey of Vézelay\, a remarkable survival\, where the relics of Mary Magdalen made it a major pilgrimage site in itself\, as well as a gathering place for pilgrims to Compostella. To complete our immersion in the past\, we visit the site of Guédelon\, where an experimental archaeology project is building a 13th century castle using only period techniques\, dress\, tools and materials. \nAll this and the pleasures of the foremost home of French food and wine! \n  \nPrice \nBased on 15 participants and strictly limited \n£3\,300.00 per person sharing a twin room \n£360.00 additional for single occupancy \n£700.00 deposit is needed to confirm your place \n  \nThe price includes: \nLecturing by Nicole Mezey throughout \nServices of tour manager throughout \nOutbound flight with British Airways from Heathrow \nReturn Eurostar (standard class) from Gare du Nord/St. Pancras \nAll Coaching services throughout the tour \n4 nights bed and breakfast at 4* Chapeau Rouge par William Fanchot\, Dijon \n4 dinners in local restaurants (3 courses excluding wine) \n1 lunch on site at the Guedelon Medieval Site \nAll entrance charges to visits as per the itinerary \nVox headsets\, days 2-4 \nGratuities \nCity Tax \n  \nThe price does not include: \nLunches (Days 1\, 2\, 3\, 4) \nTeas or coffees during any mid-morning/mid-afternoon breaks \nRefreshments \nAny incidental and personal expenditure (laundry/telephone etc) \nTaxis or other transport not specified \nPersonal insurance \n  \nTO BOOK \nContact: Mary Bromley Tel: 020 7266 7820 \nEmail: info@thecoursestudies.co.uk \n  \n  \nYOUR LECTURER \nNicole Mezey \nNicole studied at the Universities of Sussex\, York and Paris before becoming Senior Lecturer at Queen’s University\, Belfast\, where she established the Department of Art History and worked extensively with adult students on part-time degrees and Open Learning programmes. SUMMARY:NEW YORK – 'A Bite of The Big Apple'
DESCRIPTION:The influx of nations and the resources of a financial powerhouse come together to make New York a unique centre of cultures. This tour takes in Ellis Island and the Tenement Museum\, permeated by stories of the “huddled masses” who flocked here for safety and success and bohemian Williamsburg\, today a culturally diverse and vibrant neighbourhood.  In contrast are the gems of world art acquired by the phenomenal wealth of others – Titian\, an Egyptian temple\, Greek vases\, Goya\, Manet\, Lichtenstein\, the study of an Italian Renaissance prince\, historic ships which carried the trade of the city ……..just some of the treasures in museums ranging from the palatial Fifth Avenue home of a robber-baron to a modernist masterpiece to (most unexpected of all!) a cluster of medieval monasteries. \n  \nPricing \nThis tour is offered WITHOUT flights and on a “land arrangement only” basis. If there is enough interest\, flights will be added at a later date or you can book your own but please don’t do so until we are sure the trip will go ahead.
