Amsterdam, the ‘Venice of the North’ is unrivalled in Europe for the visual arts. This tour offers a unique opportunity to consolidate your learning on The Course’s year long programme The Golden Age of Dutch Art. You will see key artworks by Rembrandt and Vermeer and be transported back to the seventeenth century through beautifully preserved architecture and decor. But you will also be able to trace the development of Dutch art in the practice of Van Gogh and twentieth century avant gardists such as Mondrian. Highlights include a whole day in the Rijksmuseum whose much-anticipated re-opening has been greeted with critical acclaim for its stunning refurbishment and bold curation. You will also visit two beautiful 17th-century canal houses, exquisitely furnished and sited on world heritage canals.
